3D printed black PLA wall art sign reading Girls Just Wanna Have Fun in chunky stacked serif letters, mounted on a whitewashed wood wall, matte black finish, handmade in New Zealand

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun — And Now They Can Put It on the Wall

Some phrases are just timeless. And "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is one of them — it belonged on a bedroom wall in 1983, and it still belongs on one now.

This is one of those pieces I had a lot of fun making. The chunky stacked serif lettering, the bold matte black finish, the way the whole thing just pops against a wall — it came out exactly how I pictured it. And at 19cm × 19cm, it's the perfect size to sit on a shelf, lean against a mirror, or go straight up on the wall with a bit of blu-tack.

Why wall art from a 3D printer?

It's a fair question — there's no shortage of wall art out there. But 3D printed signs have something that flat prints and canvases don't: depth and texture. The layered PLA plastic gives the lettering a subtle raised quality that catches the light differently depending on the time of day and where it's sitting in a room. It looks handcrafted because, well, it is.

Each sign is printed to order right here in Upper Hutt, New Zealand. Not mass-produced overseas, not shipped from a warehouse on the other side of the world — made fresh, locally, for you.

Where does it work best?

Almost anywhere, honestly. But here are the spots where I've seen this one look particularly good:

  • Bedroom walls and shelves — on a floating shelf alongside some plants and fairy lights, it's an instant vibe
  • Dressing rooms and vanity areas — the kind of thing you see every morning and it just sets the right tone for the day
  • Girls' birthday parties — prop it up on the gift table or use it as a photo backdrop
  • Hen parties and girls' weekends — need I say more
  • Playrooms — bold, colourful, and completely kid-proof
  • Office spaces — because sometimes you need a reminder while you're working

It doesn't have to be black

The matte black version is the one in the photos and it looks sharp — but I print this sign in a full range of colours. Some of my top picks for this particular design:

  • Pink — maximalist, unapologetic, perfect
  • White — clean and versatile, works with almost any wall colour
  • Gold — for when you want it to feel a little extra
  • Glow in the dark — honestly brilliant for a kids' room or a fun bedroom feature
  • Purple — bold and a little bit different

Just choose your colour at checkout, or leave me a note if you want something specific. If I have the filament, I'll make it happen.

The details

Printed in PLA plastic — lightweight, durable, and eco-friendly. The sign weighs around 30–60g depending on the colour and infill, so it's light enough to hold on the wall with just blu-tack (no nails, no holes, no damage to your walls). It also sits perfectly flat on any surface if you'd rather display it without mounting.

Made to order — allow 3–5 business days before I dispatch, and then it's on its way tracked via NZ Post.

The perfect gift

At this price point it's an easy, thoughtful gift for someone who deserves a little fun on their wall. Birthday, housewarming, hen party, just-because — wrap it up and it's done. Pair it with the C'Mon Barbie sign for an instant wall art duo that makes a brilliant gift set.
